A Snowy Wedding Weekend in Oslo, Norway

Sometimes the best trips start with a little chaos.

We booked a weekend trip to Oslo to visit friends for their wedding, excited for a cozy winter getaway in Norway. But the moment we landed, our plans took an unexpected turn, our suitcase never arrived.

After waiting at the baggage claim for what felt like forever, we realized our luggage was not coming anytime soon. We didn’t want to waste too much time dealing with customer service at the airport, so we decided to focus on solving the problem ourselves.

Our first mission in Oslo: find clothes.

It was already around 9 PM, and most stores in the city center were closing. Luckily, we found an H&M that still had about 15 minutes before shutting its doors. My wife and I split up immediately, she grabbed outfits for herself while I rushed through the men’s section trying to put together something decent for the wedding.

Against all odds, we succeeded.

With our emergency shopping complete, we finally headed to our hotel. Oslo looked magical that evening. Snow covered the streets and rooftops, creating the perfect cozy winter atmosphere. The city felt calm, peaceful, and almost cinematic.

A Beautiful Wedding in the Heart of Oslo

The next morning, we got up early to prepare for the wedding. I still didn’t have my original suit, but luckily I managed to put together a nice enough outfit from our late-night shopping adventure.

The wedding ceremony took place at the Oslo City Hall, an impressive and beautiful building right in the center of the city. The atmosphere was warm and emotional, and it was amazing to see our friends celebrating such a special moment.

After the ceremony, we moved to another location for the party. There was great food, plenty of drinks, familiar faces, and lots of new people to meet. The entire evening had such a relaxed and joyful vibe.

Later that night, we strolled through Oslo while snow slowly covered the streets. We walked around Skarpenords kruttårn, enjoying the quiet winter evening and taking in the beautiful scenery.

Sledding at Frognerseteren

The next day, we decided to do something a little more adventurous.

We headed to Frognerseteren for some sledding, and honestly, it was way more extreme than expected. Some parts of the track were incredibly fast, and of course, being myself, I managed to crash.

Luckily, no injuries.

After warming up with food and drinks, we decided that our short career in extreme winter sports had officially come to an end. Instead, we spent the rest of the day exploring more of Oslo.

We visited the Royal Palace, admired the modern architecture of the Opera House, and grabbed food at Barcode Street Food. Everywhere we went, the city felt welcoming and relaxed.

Why Oslo Stole Our Hearts

Oslo surprised us in the best possible way.

The snow made the city feel even more magical, the people were friendly, and the evenings were incredibly peaceful and quiet. Even with the lost luggage situation, the trip turned into one of those memorable travel experiences that you end up laughing about later.

We will definitely return to Norway someday.

Just maybe with a different airline next time.
